Be Cautious About Vanity Galleries  

It is a great day for you as a budding artist if a gallery reaches out to you. While it is exciting, you must pause awhile and consider several possibilities that might not always be to your advantage.

Vanity Galleries are legitimate businesses that put artists under contract for displaying their artworks in exchange for money. However, the sum offered is very meagre and you should not accept it in your desperation for exposure but instead, select a reputed gallery like Exhibitiv for your shows.

The cost is not sufficient to pay off the artist and does not reflect on market prices. Moreover, your relationship with these types of Vanity Galleries does no good to your reputation as credible galleries do not look up to them well. As such, it is not advisable to draw up a contract with these galleries.

If at all you want to enter into a contract with one such gallery, ask for contact with a previously represented artist. Then check their experience with the signing before taking the plunge for a new contract.
